Energen/Alagasco employees have a long history of volunteering and fundraising for Junior Achievement. This year, employees raised more than $17,500 for the organization.
Energen/Alagasco employees took home several awards at the recent Junior Achievement of Greater Birmingham Recognition Luncheon.
Courtney Hallowell, assistant of IT support for Alagasco, served as the company coordinator, a liaison between Junior Achievement (JA) and the company. She was personally awarded the 2013 Goal Setter Award for her outstanding service and for helping the company to exceed its fundraising goal.
“We reached this year’s goal with a lot of hard work and determination,” Hallowell said.
The semi-annual Jim ‘N’ Nick’s Junior Achievement Bowling Classic is the JA of Greater Birmingham’s largest fundraiser. Volunteers from Alagasco and other companies throughout Birmingham formed teams of five bowlers to participate.
Hallowell, along with Tanya Brown, Crystal Calvin, Rhonda Houston, Alaniche Lawrence, Christy Palmer, Cedric Reid, Lakessia Willis and Chris Wingard, volunteered to serve as team captains for the Bowling Classic. Each team is challenged to raise $500.
From June to August, members of the nine Junior Achievement teams hosted events like bake sales, dunking booths and raffles to help raise funds for the many programs provided by the Junior Achievement of Greater Birmingham.
“The money we raised helps put hands-on curricula in classrooms in the Birmingham metro area,” Hallowell said.
With the help of the team captains, Alagasco teams received the following awards:
- Most Money Raised by a company- 3rd place
- Most Money Raised by an individual- 1st, 2nd and 4th places
- Most Money Raised by a team- 1st, 2nd and 5th places
