United Way of Central Alabama is kicking off its 2013 pacesetter campaign meetings, and Energen Corporation, along with its subsidiary Alagasco, are proud to be among the companies asked to set the pace for giving. As a Pacesetter, Energen/ Alagasco, along with 55 other businesses, hospitals and nonprofit organizations, will help launch United Way’s fall campaign, which begins in September.
Pacesetter companies have set a goal to raise $13 million to benefit the United Way agencies of Jefferson, Shelby, Blount, Walker and St. Clair counties.
Last year, Energen/Alagasco employees helped raise $504,132. With the Energen Foundation match, our total contribution surpassed $1 million.
Energen/Alagasco campaign chairman Doug Marshall has challenged employees to raise even more this year.
“This year, our goal is $515,000,” said Marshall, vice president and controller of Alagasco. “And the reason that we’ve increased that is because we are trying to make a bigger difference in the lives of our customers, in the lives of others in our communities. The communities that share our home—the place where we live, work and play.”
United Way of Central Alabama is the 12th largest United Way organization in the country, supporting more than 80 partners and programs. Donations to the United Way support partners, programs and initiatives that focus on improving health, education, financial stability and access to services.
