How to read an EnergyGuide label

You may remember seeing an EnergyGuide label the last time you shopped for an appliance. It’s bright yellow with black lettering, very distinctive and…required by federal law. These labels can be found on most appliances. But what do they mean?

Why should you use the EnergyGuide label?

These labels contain great information designed to help you make the best energy efficient choice when purchasing a new appliance. The more energy efficient a product is, the less it will cost to run. That will help you decide whether you want to spend a little more upfront to save more money over the life of the appliance.

By knowing how to read the labels, much of the comparison shopping has been done for you.

Here is an awesome graphic by the Federal Trade Commission that explains what everything on the label means to you.
