Growing up in the South, Independence Day is kind of a big deal. The smell of barbecued ribs lingers throughout the neighborhoods. Kids are squealing as they splash around in the pool, slip-n-slide or maybe just the water hose…but there has to be water. There’s plenty of fresh cut watermelon and sparklers to go around. Everything good about summer comes together in one day. When the sun sets you gather and watch the fireworks brighten the night sky. Children’s faces light up as they watch in wonder, no matter how small or how grand. It’s a day of pride, gratitude and a celebration of freedom.
We all have our own memories of the Fourth of July. What’s yours?
